Each week, your child will receive a homework packet catered to his/her learning needs. Homework will include reading from a self-selected, appropriately leveled book, for an average of 30 minutes per night. After 30 minutes of reading, he or she will write a summary and one question which demonstrates analytical thinking.
In addition, your child will receive an math paper. This is a lesson based problem-solving activity, which focuses on mathematical reasoning and representation. Other math homework includes: updated Gizmos (quiz required), the attached Gizmos feedback form, Lexia or Noredink. The packet is distributed on Monday and is due Friday (of a typical week). A special exercise enrichment is scheduled on Friday to celebrate student responsibility and quality work! Students who need to revise their work, ask questions or make up missed work, have the opportunity to do so during that time. Students opting to use this time for other enrichment options (art and music), can also remain in the classroom.
The philosophy behind using this packet is to provide differentiation and encourage independence and sensible scheduling, as he/she approaches the Middle School age. Students with busy schedules can opt to read and write more one night, and balance it the next night. Students are also encouraged to email me or bring the packet for any help prior to Friday, thus encouraging self-agency. Please contact me with any questions or concerns. Thank you for supporting these great lifelong habits!
